5 Creative Home Roofing Ideas

As we move through the 21st Century, we’re becoming increasingly more obsessed with quirky, unique home improvement ideas. It seems like this pool of ideas never runs dry, either, and there is always another one round the corner.

If you’re in the market for a new roof, the same applies. From curved to metal to grass, there are numerous fun ways to add a pinch of style to the top of your property. Here are five of the best!

#1. Grass bed

Having a grass bed on your roof is one of the more unorthodox roofing ideas to pop up in recent years. That being said, it’s a great way to add a touch of visual flair and that wow factor to your home. The bright green color really makes your property stand out, and it allows you to walk round and sit on your roof comfortably.

All you need is a flat roof, then to buy some turf from your local store. You’ll care for the grass just as you would any other lawn, but this one will be easier. This is because there’s zero footfall, compared to a regular lawn.

#2. Metal

Putting metal on your roof may seem like an odd choice, but it’s far more beneficial than you realize. Metal roofing is extremely durable, for obvious reasons; it’s made of metal! This also means it lasts ages – metal roofs have been known to last 40 to 70 years. It’s also more environmentally friendly than a traditional roof, too. Metal roofs are usually made from recycled material, and the roof itself is recyclable at the end of its life, unlike slate roofs.

#3. Patio and seating

Yes, this is a thing. It’s the same layout as when you put grass on your roof – 100 percent flat – but a patio and seating space is installed instead. There’s no better way to spend those summer evenings than staring out onto the horizon from the heights of your roof. This also saves space too, as you don’t need to have a patio in your garden. Your garden has moved! Now, you can use your actual garden for whatever you see fit.

#4. Solar panels

A new solar panel system is installed every four minutes, so is yours next? Possibly! It goes without saying that this is a fantastic way to get more money from your home.

Solar panels are cheap too, and the more common they get the lower the price becomes. Why not do your bit for the environment and create an awesome looking roof in the process?

#5. Curved

Having a curved roof is not only a unique architectural feat, it’s actually really suitable for a home. The curve will help rainwater slide off more easily, and you still have space for a loft. The only problem comes when it’s time to get up on the roof and make repairs.

Obviously, a curved roof is more tricky to navigate than a straight one. Regardless, if you want to make a statement without straying too far from a traditional roof layout, this is the one for you.
